France - Verdun Underground Citadel - 1

Verdun Underground Citadel - World War I museum - Battlefield - Memorial - - European Tourist Guide - euro-t-guide.com

The Verdun Underground Citadel featured 400-metre long parallel galleries, linked by four perpendicular galleries, and could  hold up to 2,000 men. During World War I it was used as a shelter (mess, baker, hospital etc.). Some members of the local council also exercised their functions from within the citadel. Due to a late arrival at the museum we were not able to cover all of the museum, so the pictures below are not fully representative for the museum.
